Greenpower Education Trust, a charity that inspires young people about engineering, has been awarded a significant grant to enable a major project in the Humber region to race off the starting grid.
The Greenpower Education Trust is among recipients of grants announced today (March 22nd) from an investment fund created by The Careers & Enterprise Company to prepare almost a quarter of a million 11-18 year olds across England for the world of work.
16th -19th March saw the annual national Big Bang Fair descend upon Birmingham NEC. This year we were kindly invited by our national partners, Siemens, to be a part of their Curiosity Project Stand. Greenpower is one of a select few project to be supported by the Siemens Curiosity project which is a three-year engagement programme to bring science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to life in the UK.
Saturday 12th March – Plumpton College Goblins, a little earlier than usual because of the Easter Holidays and Big Bang Fair (which we will be at this week!) but 24 teams were still in attendance from across Sussex and Kent – some already racing in their second event of the season!
Saturday 5th March was an icy morning start for the first Goblin of the season – we did avoid the threatened snow though! The event had a record number of entries with 23 teams racing on the day – from schools across Hampshire, West Sussex and even Rose Hill School from Kent in attendance!
You can now view the programme for the upcoming HMS Excellent Goblin event taking place on Saturday 5th March.
In 2015 we learnt that it would be the last year of competing for one of our top private teams, North Highland Young Engineers. With a successful string of simple, low cost, yet very competitive cars to their name they were the ideal candidates to set a project we’d been wanting to run for a while.
The 21st February marked the end of Greenpower's winter hibernation as Goodwood played host to another first time event: The Hampshire and Isle of Wight PCC Cop Car race day. A mouthful to say but an event certainly worth battling the windy weather for.
We’re delighted to announce additional support from Motorola Solutions through the provision of a new set of radio communications equipment. This enables us to continue operating our events to the usual high safety standards, whilst also allowing more than one event to take place at the same time.
The DP1400 radio is of exceptional quality, matching Greenpower’s commitment to using the best products and equipment to run increasing numbers of events at diverse locations all over the UK.

A project which has engaged more than 10,000 students with the aim of inspiring the future generation of engineers has led to Staffordshire firm KMF winning a prestigious award.
Staffordshire based KMF beat off stiff competition from Rolls Royce and Toyota to win the Skills Innovation award sponsored by Siemens at the prestigious 2016 Semta Skills Awards in London.
The gala dinner at London's Hilton Hotel on Park Lane was hosted by BBC journalist and engineering champion Steph McGovern.
